Why Karwano exists

Four seats, 1.2 people.

That is the average car in Pakistan’s rush hour: nearly empty, burning petrol at record prices, inching past other nearly empty cars headed the same way. Karwano exists to fill those seats — with verified people, fair fares and a safer road for everyone on it.

Our story

It started with a car park full of single drivers

The road is better shared.
The line every feature has to pass.

Karwano began in 2025 as a spreadsheet passed around one Karachi office. Same building, same 8:45 start — and a car park of four-seat cars that had each carried exactly one person down Shahrah-e-Faisal. Colleagues started pairing up. Fuel bills dropped. The spreadsheet grew. The hard part, it turned out, was never finding the seats. It was trust.

So we built the trust first and the app second. Every member verifies their CNIC before they can ride. Every driver adds a driving licence and vehicle documents before they can drive. Fares sit in escrow from booking until the ride ends. Live tracking and one-tap SOS run on every trip, and women can choose women-only rides or a female-driver filter. None of it is a premium tier — it is the floor.

Today Karwano carries daily commuters and intercity travellers across five cities, with workplace and university groups at the centre of it. Carpooling is chapter one. Karwano Go and Karwano Eats are being built on the same verified community — one platform for every journey, and every journey better shared.

What we believe

Three things we won’t trade

Every product decision gets tested against these. If a feature grows the numbers but breaks one of them, it doesn’t ship.

Trust before scale

We verify people before we match them, not after something goes wrong. Growth that skips the CNIC check, the licence check or the escrow wallet is growth we will pass on.

Fair to both sides

Drivers recover their fuel money; passengers pay a fraction of ride-hailing fares. Escrow holds the fare from booking until the ride ends, so neither side has to take anyone’s word for it.

Community, not crowd

Workplace and university groups, ratings on both sides, familiar faces on familiar routes. A karwano is a fellow traveller — the product only works if it feels that way.
